To Hogarth. 8.6.1911.
Out in the fields we have been shown a most splendidly interest-
ing "Basalt column base: Pittilie & very rare. Today I took your
procession-l-bull-relief, after staining it brown with coffee.
It looked quite clear on the ground-glass, and has more detail
in it than we thought. There are ... in the broken relief in
that district.
I don't think we want a third man. The "Hoja" is making a very
excellent overseer: (he bought your shoes for a Med.id & a quart-
er) but I wish we had Trigori: he's only we couldn't talk to him:
& our new Commissaire (who is excellent) talks Greek.
Thomson won't shift into tents; he is afraid of the heat: but the
floor of this house breeds fleas. I sleep on the mound now on-
wards, in the 30 foot deep N.E.Cut.
