To Rogarth 6.XII.23 I expect Dawney will have told you that I'm coming down to Ox- ford on Saturday night, (won't be able to leave London till 6 or 7 PM) to stay till an early Monday morning; and in that Sunday I hope to put my point of view as to the Seven Pillars before you & Curtis. It is briefly that I'm aiming at a public that will pay but not read..... any more than what one bears the plutocrats should be of that sort. If as many as 300 copies were sent out, the book would have to be severely cut down, & that means another edition some-day, & consequently no rest now. The fewer the copies the less the cuts. I don't mind a bit - in fact I intend revising the libellous | paragraphs. The mood for them has passed off. There are only about five - two English & three Arab - However more talk later on. T.E.
