To Florence Meeahan Cerchemish April 13. Dear Florence This is Friday, and writing day: and I am actually going to write to you. It is a very great compliment, for we are particularly busy. We have 200 men this year, but soon we will lose the most of them for harvest. After that perhaps we will have peace again. We are finding a great deal this year: - great slabs of stone, carved with pictures of rows of foot-soldiers, and men hunting lions, and lions hunting bulls, and all sorts of strange beasts. We have found more this year than we have ever found before. The weather just now is splendid: warm, and sunny, but with a fresh wind, and every now and then a little splash of rain. The Euphrates is in flood, and it is great sport trying to get over it in a canoe. We have a railway now, sport trying ... every day between Jerablus and Aleppo, so that running regularly is not at all like last year: we are we do get posts sometimes. It is not a ... run with visitors: they are worse than fleas! There is really nothing else to say: Everything is going on so well that nothing else matters Yr NED.
