Chackcharan The planes was late, and it was not till after 11 that we left. The sky was grey and dusty as we banked and landed over Bammjan and Band-i-Nwer. I look anxiously for Jebirmah mountains tops or river valleys all the way. Imaky[?] made it to C[?], but instead of a great nomad camp there were only a few struggling white tents in the heat and duston the edge of the town, though we had seen black tents  and yurts on our way over. On the airfield a swarthy thickset young man aged as he told us 21, who introduced himself in English as the Deputy Governor. He would take the plane on to  Herat, and he sent us to the Governor in a jeep.
