Dear G.B.
I hope you are not rushing that job. Much as I'd
like a new and better bike, the old one is so excellent
that to want it improved is mostly greed. At the same time
there are the few things to be done to it, so if the new
job is to take very long, will you please warn me? then
I'll bring up G.VII to Nottingham for two days to get
his back brake relined and some new cables and wires rigged?
I had a long talk with Mr Binks about the new
carburettor. He warned me (after going into it) that the
drain-hole idea wouldn't be possible, and seemed to think
that it would be very difficult to avoid damage to the bores,
induction it was looked after. So I'll be greatly relieved if
you and JAP's can find an alternative induction system.
After all, one wants to be able to run a B.S. for 40,000
miles without a rebore! The Mousetrap was bad for cylinder
wear, you'll remember!
So don't worry about time in your work on the new
engine. I can wait cheerfully - but I'll get your people
to look over G. VII if I'm to carry on with him till the
Autumn. I have rather put off advisable jobs on him,
with the idea that I was handing him back to you soon.
Yours ever
T E Shaw
