Dear Griffin
The Hardinge was very good to us - and to me- but
she was also a great ship, crowded with people, and I was glad
proroguéd(sic) with gras and weariness in those two war-years.
So I hope you will pardon my not remembering one of you more
than another. It was - how long ago? Nearly fifteen years,
wasn't it? I am so old now, and it feels a lifetime away. Nine
years ago I sallied, and have not thought about the Middle East
since. The Air Force life suits me, and I'm happy in it.
So I cannot tell you now anything about what happens
now in the Red Sea. I don't write there, nor do they write to me.
It wasn't a good time and I like to forget it.
Seven Pillars, that book of mine? One copy did go to
Canada, I think. Was it to a Colonel Leonard, at Montreal
I
have no copy of my own, and have not seen the book for years.
It's rather long, and I fancy dull. All the story part went into
a popular version called Revolt in the Desert: but that's had its
day, too!
I hope your affairs aren't bad. Most people's are,
alas.
Yours,
T E Shaw.
