I haven't seen him for years. Your Ebb & Flood I enjoyed. It had more reasonableness in it than usual. So many of your characters are suddenly queer for little cause: and I prefer stable beings. So the slowness of the Ebb's Flood people, and so on, did not seem the vice to me as it would to some. (I look forward to the new one. You are Word greased: Cresswood has promised me a copy of your last book after book. That's rather like printed dynamite. Don't let James Douglas see it! No, I read Carmen only slowly and with labour. C.B.S. sent me the Golf Society records as they came out: they were good: but almost too restrained. As church: I don't see.
