To Capt. R. de la Bere, R.A.F. College, Cranwell, Lincs.

5.v.31
Dear Proffr!
So far from coming to Cranwell, I have grown webs
between my toes and splash about Southampton water in speed
boats from dawn till dark. It is wet, cold and excellent.
Actually we are testing (? of us ) some new fast motor
boats for the R.A.F. It has lasted since the end of
February, & may continue for another month. Every now
& then I get tired of it. Splash all day and report all
night, and win one's judgement, hazardously, to this hull
and that engine.
That bundle of notes on R.A.F. life(it is far from
being a book) from which the paragraphs of a bike ride
along the Ramper were taken, is not now in my hands, but
in London, being read by a curious-minded chap. When
he sends them back I will look through them to see if
any other not-obscene pages can be offered you. In
memory I would say not. Nothing in it all was meant for
publication, and it's all terribly rough.
Will you please tell Dunn, if you see him, that I
owe him a letter and am sorrowfully conscious of it,
but quite unable to right myself? This pen alone is
sufficient excuse, I think.
Yours
T.E Shaw
