To Capt. R. de la Bere, R.A.F. College, Cranwell, Lincs.
She had sent a short letter, he had written about Cranwell

Dear Prof.
A charming little book about the College. It astonished
me that it makes so good a story. I read everything except
the tabulated names at the end! And laughed to see that
my poor book is one of the named trophies of the grand new
house. I am intending to see it before the year is out -
my last year with the R A F, alas.
Mrs Hardy, of Dorchester, of whom I am a sort of
trustee has asked me if her young son stands any chance
of Cranwell. He is a day-boy at Dorchester Grammar School,
and not distinguished. She looks after him, as his
father (an R.A.F. pilot in France) is now only one of
the pilots of some Air Line in Scotland.
Mrs H. says he is a decent lad, but not outstanding
in games or work. Tho and all that, I said I'd ask you
if Dorchester Grammar School was a too lowly provenance
for your splendour. If you have any dope about examination
standards, I'd be very glad of it.
Yours ever
T E Shaw
