Dear Mr Brough,
I've just been sent a marked copy of "Motor Cycling"
which gives me the glad news that I have ordered the first
of your four cylinders! I only wish it was true; but it is
good for you that it isn't, since I have just now about fifty
pounds in the world.... and very possibly they will cost more
than that.
I should warn you, however, that I am starting to
save money, against my return to England about 1930! and if
the Brough is then still the best bike in the world I'll
do my best to get one.
If you have any catalogues or booklets which give
a real account of the new thing, or of the behaviour of the
spring frame at Brough speeds, I'd be grateful for copies.
If it didn't wag her tail, it would be good to have a device
which might pick tension of the rear wheel.
By 1930 I shall be very old and feeble, so a potter-bus,
such as I suppose the four will be, ought to be about my mark.
Yours sincerely,
T E Shaw
(Used to be Lawrence, & Ross, & lots of other things.
Present name & address as above.)
