Dear Gertrude
The £300 was an old estimate for setting up 350,000 words. Chis-
wick Press. There is a slight movement about the Clarendon Press,
& I shrink from the task of educating them suddenly.
The alternative of a subscription edition is too much of a print, &
this season I would rather be indebted to our 3%s on £2 for
not turning over in my sind the alternative - to publish an
abridgement (approx: by Hogarth) & do the subscription privately
for its profit. On Monday I may go to Oxford (they may ...
