To W.B. Jeffrey (H.of C.) 13 Birmingham St Southampton 11 May 1934 Affectionate Skeleton I hope you got my cancellation wire in time to save you the useless walk. My bosses came down for the week-end, and wanted to drive my trial boat, which I had tuned and tested during the week. In this job everything is settled at the last moment. I was at Clouds Hill for two [word crossed out] hours yesterday, in revenge for the lost week-end. It looked well. Perhaps I will be there this week-end. If you or Lll should d,rp up, at any rate I shall try to get there. No promises, no telegrams. If it is a fine day, perhaps you will both want a walk, to digest the (presumably enormous) Sunday dinner. Remember the cottage is bare: no food: and no drink. Even the spring is running low. Bother these droughts. No fire damage - yet. Your long letter arrived on Saturday & increased the pleasure of my week-end afloat. It blew hard, too, and we were all soaked. Yours T.E.S.
