LH 9/13/42 To H. Williamson Southampton. 24.2.34 Dear H.W. A line scribbled in haste - my only letter to anyone for a long time. I am all boats-and-engines, engrossed. Yes, your unhappy letter was very unhappy. I won- dered if I could do anything, and knew that I couldn't. In the end we are all self-contained. I will try and see you on Wednesday, for a moment, if the job will ease up for a little and let me cross the water. No speed-boat. There are five building, but none ready for test. In case I don't see you - fare you well, and come back some time, when you feel you can. I'm not the only one who draws pleasure to himself from your work. I'll sound Care about the Air book, but will not pro- mise to say anything aloud about it. I've done so three or four times, and learned to grow sick, each time, over what I've said. It's no good yawping unintelligently for joy; and impo...ible when joyful to cerebrate wisely! The best of wishes - but I will turn up on Wed. if I can manage it. They want me in London on Tuesday, for a conference - and that is what makes me uncertain. Yours T.E.S. 701
