Hythe,

Dear Flight Lieutenant Beeforte Greenwood
We have now tried two alternative safety "gates"
for the gear-engagements, and have decided that the best
position is on the gun-pulley, for that renders them
independent of wiring up adjustments. I can explain
when you see the job.
Now the next move is to reproduce the successful
R.H. engine on the L.H. engine; and then to link up and
test. This can be done on Monday's tide (p.m.) and I
have warned W/Cmdr. Watkin, who will probably come him-
self to see the instaling, and bring his ......... and
engineer. From Monday onwards for at least a week, Cpl.
Jordan and I will be juggling with the boat, getting it
right, or getting ourselves right to it.
It has been difficult, and sometime disappointing;
but now I ... it to the independent gear and throttle
control of the old boats. I think its sweeter and
simpler control will much more than make up for the
slight complexity of fitting, and for the cost. We can
draft special fitters instructions to assist installation
and maintenance. I find the boat easier to drive, now,
than the older boats were.
