To G. Brough
119 Clarence Road
East Cowes
Isle of Wight.
13. VI. 33
Dear Mr Brough
I would have answered before, but just as your
letter came I was leaving Cowes, for another trip, and I left
it till my return last night.
That bill made me feel rather guilty. It hardly
covered the cost of the materials, let alone the labour.
However a supplement for rear-box was promised, and perhaps
that will do the firm good. If not you'll have to write me down
as a dead loss.
The bike is going beautifully, and has been cleaned
as part acknowledgment. Five changes of back plug only, to
date, in 2200 miles. So that is good. On the other hand,
the roads have been dry and so we have been hoping it.
I read the article in the Motor Cycle and was dis-
appointed. That is no way to taste the merits of a b.s.
By the way, did you ever see the note of a ride to Lincoln
from Cranwell that I gave to the R.A.F. College magazine a
year or two ago? It was more my notion of what Broughing
should be. Captain de la Bere, the Editor, would probably
show you the article, if you asked him nicely. I did not
keep a copy.*
It's time to adjust chains again, alas. Think of me
for the next few days, trying to screw myself up to the
effort!
Yours sincerely
T E Shaw
* Ten years ago (nearly) I wrote a set of articles on
the joys of riding - but the Motor Cycle would not
have them. This is the survivor!
