By way out we wander down a grassy riverbed through the scrub, Ford stopped now and then to answer his worried enquiries as to where we were heading, with a wink and "Trust me." The days here have been scorchers and a scarlet sunset scribbles on the cliffs and in the great main valley the shadows deepen. We crunch along a stony track between high walls. Far ahead through a cleft I glimpse a white house with a flat roof among dusty trees. "Mowitza's," says Ford, jerking his head sideways, "the property that gave the area its name." Now we veer left through a broken-down fence and strike out across a wide field, aiming for a small rise with a cluster of trees near the river. In little clearings among the trees, rings of stones show where the Mowitza people made camps in the days before the old cattle mustering days.
