Dear Flight Beauforte Greenwood,
Excuse the paper. I am out of everything for the moment. We are still working hard on the Hyland gear. The 4th edition of the same is projected, and will be ready for rigging up tomorrow night. Each edition registers an advance, definite but small. I see probably one or two more changes yet, after the 4th edition.
Mr. Scott-Paine is unwilling to have anyone from Calshot see all the trouble we are having. So he, Leonard and me are the crew, normally; and I have not yet called upon W/Cmdr. Watkins for a coxswain. I will do so as soon as the boat is ready for running tests. There yard exercises, which is what we have done so far, make one unnecessary, really.
This afternoon we had to interrupt work to weigh 808, for the inclining test completion. Mr. S-P will drive his own. The Hyland gear is still more difficult, and calls for more judgement in use than the old hand gears; but we are now at work embodying stops and precautions. The mechanical operation is perfect. It has only to fool-proofed.
Yours sincerely
T.E.Shaw
